photo for Interview with Clive Bleasdale, head of the property department at Liverpool-based law firm Weightmans LLP

Q What is your role at Weightmans?

A National Head of Property, responsible for the firm’s property teams in each of its five offices which handle significant public and private sector property work.

Q Why did you become a solicitor?

A My Mum suggested it! I didn't listen to her at first, but some time later socialising with a successful Chester solicitor convinced me that law was the career for me.

Q What's the best part of your job?

A Happy clients and completing decent deals, as well as happy and motivated team members.

Q What's the most interesting case you have dealt with?

A Property transaction, acting for Glaxo at Speke which involved the relocation of a mobile newspaper sales trailer some years ago. Current work on complex Town Centre redevelopment and regeneration schemes can be fascinating.

Q What would you have been if you weren't a lawyer?

A Lead guitarist in Echo and the Bunnymen.

Q What would you advise lawyers beginning their legal career in the current economic climate?

A It remains a career with undoubted job satisfaction and rewards for people with enthusiasm, drive and energy.
