Job Title: Solicitor
Department: Insurance & Public Risk - Clinical Negligence

Overall description of the role

You are expected to provide patient-related health law advice and services to a range of clinical negligence clients and in particular acting for the NHS.

Main Duties

Specific responsibilities

1. To manage a caseload of clinical negligence claims/actions, often at a multi million pound level, together with related health sector advice including inquest work.
2. Delegation and supervision of tasks to more junior lawyers where appropriate.
3. To undertake marketing activities, including the planning and delivery of relevant seminar and training programmes.
4. To undertake legal research, advising on the implications of new statutes, regulations, directives and case law.

5. To achieve budgeted hours and fees for the year.
6. Willing to spend time with clients on short-term secondments if required.

Technical skills

7. Strong academic background, ideally 2:1 degree or equivalent.
8. Familiarity with IT (Microsoft Office 2003), and ideally with experience of appropriate case management systems.
9. Familiarity with on-line and library research facilities.
10. Attention to detail with the ability to explain/advise clients on complex technical aspects of process and procedure.

5. Committed to recording time promptly; meeting financial goals with track record in achieving targets including minimum six and a half hours chargeable time each day.
6. The candidate may be required to work from our Birmingham and London offices as necessary.
