Description

Commercial Solicitor

Highly regarded and well-liked Legal 500 firm and Law Firm Award winner at the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards seeks to hire a commercial solicitor to join the growing corporate commercial team in their Leeds office.

This ever-popular mid-sized firm is ranked in the Legal 500 for its corporate and commercial work and with a very low turnover of staff - many of its assistant solicitors and associates trained and qualified there - they are proud of their organic growth. They have a totally transparent annual review process and actively encourage their staff to apply and their lawyers can take on as much early responsibility as they feel comfortable with.

The four partner team handles the full range of commercial contracts, such as IP licences and assignments, research & development agreements, confidentiality & non-disclosure agreements, regulatory matters, and privacy policy, as well as all the usual agency, franchising, partnership, distribution & supply agreements. They work across a wide range of industry sectors, including health, sports, music, media & entertainment.

The team punches above its weight in the local marketplace and regularly works on the other side of deal with the top tier nationals, so the quality of work here is very good.

Turnover for the team has risen over 20% in the last year and is set to rise further again this year. It is one of the fastest growing departments in the firm, with an increasing profile for this area of work. They attract a lot more interesting work than many other similar sized departments - alongside all the usual bread & butter transactions such as agency, distribution and franchising agreements, there are contracts for professional football clubs, sponsorship deals and work with interesting clients in the film industry.

On top of that, they're a friendly bunch of capable lawyers who respect each others' opinions and get on well, without a clash of egos.

The ideal candidate to join the team will have three to six years' PQE in commercial, including excellent drafting & negotiation skills, client care skills and strong business development experience. You will be able to prioritise your workload effectively and work well as a team on larger, more complex matters. If you also have some experience of corporate or IP matters, then so much the better, although this is by no means essential. If you prefer a broad remit including corporate and IP, you are welcome to do that, but if straight commercial is more your bag, that can easily be accommodated.

In return, the firm can offer you excellent quality work across some interesting & engaging industry sectors, a friendly team and a very good market rate salary package, as well as the sensible work-life balance that we have come to expect from the mid-tier. The firm has one of the lowest chargeable hours targets in Leeds.
