Commercial Quasi In-House Solicitor Leeds

A new commercial role has arisen in Leeds which genuinely is a little bit different. It is based within a top tier law firm but working within a ring-fenced team which delivers bespoke in-house legal services so that in practice working as an in-house lawyer, working closely with the one business and its existing in-house function, as a seamless extension to it, but can take advantage of the best of both the private practice and in-house work environments, as you will be part of the client's in-house legal team, but with the full support of a global law firm.

The role involves supporting the team in the design of effective legal solutions for the client, ensuring that the client is provided with high quality commercial legal advice, mitigating commercial and legal risks, and building strong relationships with the client business teams. The environment provides an excellent opportunity to effectively prioritise the needs of the client. There is no billable hours target so the time recording pressure is off, allowing you to work closely with the client around commercial priorities.

The firm is developing this team which allows clients to outsource some or all of its in-house legal function and the growth plans will also provide far more opportunities to progress and diversify than you find in the typical in-house legal team, another advantage to the cross-environment approach.

In addition, it will provide opportunities to work as an extension to in-house legal teams that are based elsewhere in the country, typically London and the South East, which is a unique proposition in Yorkshire which has a relatively small in-house market.

They are welcoming applications from qualified solicitors with between two and five years' post-qualified experience in non-contentious commercial work. The ideal candidate will have either a private practice or in-house background, solid academics, strong commercial acumen and client-facing skills, and know their way comfortably around all the usual range of commercial contracts, although strong candidates from other commercial disciplines may be considered.

This is a great opportunity for an in-house lawyer looking for a new challenge or more focussed career development opportunities, or for a private practice lawyer looking to move away from the pressures of time recording and to combine high quality work and opportunity with a healthy work life balance.

Reduced hours and flexible / agile working arrangements are very much on the table, as well as a sensible work-life balance, as working hours tend to mirror those of the client organisation, rather than any kind of long-hours culture.

It goes without saying that this global firm also offers top market rate salary packages.
