J. Murphy & Sons is a leading global, multi-disciplined engineering and construction company. We are an infrastructure specialist and provide a wide range of construction services to infrastructure sectors including rail, water, power and natural resources. We operate across the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, the Middle East and employ over 4,000 people. Turnover is close to ?1 billion and we are set to grow this substantially.
Last year saw us double our legal team to 4 lawyers and due to the significant impact that they have on our business we are looking for an additional hire. An opportunity has arisen for a commercial or construction lawyer to join the team based near Golborne, Greater Manchester and help meet the growing demands of the business. You will support the legal team in providing a service to JMS and its trading companies on a national and international level.
We require a commercial, assertive and diplomatic lawyer who has strong communication and stakeholder management skills, who can deal across a diverse client group.
The successful candidate will ideally have some post qualification and ideally some in-house experience although private practice candidates who have an aptitude for commercial and/ or construction work and who are looking to move in house are also of great interest.
There will be a wide range of legal work including the following tasks related primarily to JMS' operations in the construction industry:
- Provision of legal services and advice to all internal stakeholders;
- Supporting on all legal, governance and compliance issues;
- Reviewing, advising, drafting and negotiating contract terms including identifying key legal and commercial risks;
- Assisting with the management of litigation and claims;
- Assisting with the management of ER matters and employment disputes;
- Supporting on operational leases, disposals and acquisitions; and
- Instructing and liaising with external advisors.
We are looking for a lawyer with NQ-3 years' PQE who has some knowledge of contract and commercial law and a willingness to develop an understanding of employment, construction and property law. Of most importance will be your character to 'get involved' with a growing and successful business.
