What role does the Practice Manager have?
In a law firm, the Practice Manager is usually responsible for the management of all the organisation’s support functions. In a small firm, daily duties can be similar to an office manager, while in larger firms the Manager might be a very accomplished and highly qualified Finance or Human Resources professional. With increasing regulation the Practice Manager can also be responsible for compliance and risk management, ensuring that their firm adheres to Solicitors Regulation Authority rules.
How do I become a Practice Manager?
There are primarily three routes to Practice Management. The Legal PA who has progressed into office management, which has then developed into a more senior practice management role; qualified Finance and Accounting professionals recruited or promoted to manage the Finance Department with strategic involvement and responsibility for other business support functions such as HR and compliance; and qualified HR professionals with a strong legal knowledge and astute commercial awareness.
