






By far the most talked about city in the North East is Newcastle, with an amazing range of galleries & museums, sports & leisure as well as a wide range of excellent restaurants all no more than twenty minutes from some of the most breath taking countryside it’s no wonder why!
The last ten years have seen nearly £2 billion worth of regeneration investment including the trendy quayside, as well as internationally recognised business centres it is no surprise that many international companies are based in the region.

For those who prefer something a little more chic Princess Square has a number of fashionable boutiques, the largest being C.F Cruise Flannels (a favourite with Newcastle United players).

Newcastle boasts 6 theatres giving it one of the highest concentrations outside of the capital. On Grey Street the Newcastle Theatre Royal provides the third home to the Royal Shakespeare Company outside of London & Stratford upon Avon. There are 20 galleries and museums including; 36 Lime Street, the largest artists’ studio in the North East with an eclectic mix of designers, artists and musicians, with open weekends providing the opportunity to purchase and commission work.
The LaingArt Gallery hosts an impressive permanent collection and includes works from John Martin, Henry Moore and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood painters. On Gateshead Quay the Sage Gateshead, designed by Sir Norman Foster provides a fantastic view of the city and offers music lovers detailed acoustics. The Northern Sinfonia is housed there and is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The NewcastleMetro RadioArena & Carling Academy provide every music lover with something of interest from Kyle to the Charletons and Paul Weller to James Blunt.
As well as its own premier league football team Newcastle United; the city is also famous for the Newcastle Falcons (home of Jonny Wilkinson). If however, you prefer the pace of league the Gateshead Thunder offers all the thrills you desire.The region is also famous for Newcastle Eagles Basketball Team, the most successful sports club in the region at present.
If cricket is your game then a short stop from the centre is Durham county cricket club in Chester-le-Street.
The region is also home to the world’s biggest half marathon, the Great North Run. Every September 50,000 people run the 13 mile course from the centre to South Shields and an estimated £8 million is raised for charity.
Newcastle is unique amongst Englands’ regions, there is truly nowhere else in the country where you can commute 20 minutes into a city from your country haven.
The region has 2 National Parks on its doorstep Northumberland National Park and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and in less then 2 hours you can be in the Lake District National Park. Its location really is superb; you can head south to York & Leeds or north to Edinburgh all within two and a half hours.
Its growing international airport offers flights to all major European destinations and places such as Dubai. If you want to travel further afield the train to London takes as little time as three hours and twenty minutes.
