Manchester based BCL Legal – the legal recruitment consultancy which operates across the North West – this week (Monday 24th May, 2010) launches its Annual Salary Survey of in-house lawyers working within the region. The survey compared year on year salaries, bonuses and general benefits and noted that salaries for newly qualified in-house lawyers fell by £3,000 on average; down from £40,000 to £37,000.
The average salaries for more experienced in-house lawyers stayed relatively constant with the average pay for solicitors with one to five years PQE standing at between £43,000 and £60,000 respectively. Professionals with between six and ten years PQE enjoyed an average of between £65,000 and £100,000 per annum.
During the same survey, 75% of lawyers stated that they received a bonus in 2009 with the average being £13,000. Average bonuses as a % of salary for solicitors with between NQ and five years PQE was 8%, for those between six and 10 years it was 13% and for 11 years plus PQE it stood at 20%
Other findings include; 58% of those questioned received a car allowance with the average being £7,800 and 83% received a pension contribution with the average standing at 9%. Other stats include; 94% enjoying 25 days holiday or more and 76% benefiting private medical insurance.
Mark Levine, director of BCL Legal and head of its in-house department, said; ‘The findings of this survey are interesting and really do reflect what’s happening on the ground in the North West. Although the last couple of years have been tough, it’s positive to see that talented professionals are still being rewarded despite the slight dip in pay for NQs. Although, I’m sure the starting salaries for NQs will rise over the next couple of years as the recovery continues to take hold.’
Current BCL Legal clients include; AVIVA Plc, Huntsman Limited, Addleshaw Goddard, DWF, DLA, Irwin Mitchell
