It’s been very busy this week helping graduates at bclgraduates.com. Vicky Clark – director at BCL Graduates & BCL Legal – was invited by UCLan and Manchester BPP Law schools to participate in panel presentations to the organisations’ students.
At UCLan, Vicky alongside David Southern partner at Linder Myers and Zulfi Khan partner at Curtis Law, answered questions from under graduates as well as post graduates about how to prepare a CV, cover letter and how to present for interview.
At BPP in Manchester Vicky joined a panel presentation aimed at current LLB, GDL and LPC students, to discuss many topics including changes in the legal jobs market following the implementation of the Legal Service Act.
Vicky shared her knowledge and covered a range of topics including how law firms have had to adapt to the market, how new opportunities have become more available, the increased use of paralegals and how students can utilise these opportunities to further their careers. Vicky was also able to give her unique recruitment perspective from BCL as she sees what’s going on across the market with all our law firm clients and was able to highlight current trends in the market.
The panel also included Richard Powell from JMW, Luiza Da Costa from Express Solicitors, Nancy Brown from Eversheds and Tim Bratton from Lawyers on Demand.
Vicky said: “The legal market is ever-changing and it was great to meet the students and share our insight with the next generation of lawyers.”
Following the event Kelly-Ann Mallon, Head of Careers – Manchester & Liverpool – BPP University commented ” It really added fresh perspective having your input and it worked so well with the other panellists too with such a variety of expertise. The students that we spoke to afterwards really enjoyed speaking with you and now feel better informed of routes into the profession. The feedback was great and they gained lots of practical advice and insight into changes in the legal market from your perspective. It was so refreshing to hear your positives messages on the state of the market, things are looking up and students need that bit of optimism sometimes so thanks again.”
bclgraduates.com will be attending the law fair at BPP Manchester on 29th April 2015. Consultants will be on hand to offer any advice particularly if students would like a review of their CV and cover letter please bring them along.
