It is a source of considerable perplexity that BCL Legal continues to grow our presence across the Midlands and South West, whilst our competitors appear to be standing still. Our growth isn’t about “bums on seats” but it is a necessity to continue to try and offer an outstanding service to our clients. Given an improving market for recruitment we need more consultants to work the jobs that our clients are giving us and to talk to candidates that register with us.
This is borne out in the fact that every team at BCL Legal continues to perform above its financial targets. Targets which rise as we take on more consultants! Simply put we are placing more and more candidates, filling a higher percentage of roles and taking more market share.
For clients and candidates this has obvious benefits. Registering as a candidate with us means you are more likely to get the job you want. Working with us as a client means that you are more likely to fill your role. It’s a vicious circle – but a good one.

We can offer you an actual genuinely busy desk. That’s a desk where we already have relationships with clients and have been working on jobs and placing people with them. In building my team I have handed my work to new consultants and then built new revenue streams for myself. I’ve even recommended which candidates people should be forwarding to jobs! Would your manager do that?
Bonus and other incentives are based on your own performance. There is no team commission structure and no one else takes a share of what you are entitled to.
We promote a working environment where every employee is encouraged to be accountable for their work. This means that managers in this business take responsibility if things aren’t going well for a particular consultant. It is our job to help you. That obviously goes two ways and we can only support people that will allow us to support them.
Perhaps most importantly we operate an egoless and non-hierarchical structure. The atmosphere across our offices is fantastic and no one is too important to be the target of a bit of banter – including the Directors/ Owners.
I am acutely aware that this all sounds to be good to be true. To be honest I wouldn’t have believed it myself if I had not worked here.
Is there a catch? Of course there is. To work at BCL Legal you have to be motivated, hard working and open to constructive improvement. You have to embrace the opportunities that exist here and make the most of them. There are no KPI’s to hide behind, you have to make sure that everything you do is of excellent quality. The financial targets are high but a large proportion of people in our business are making them look laughably easy to achieve. You have to view that as inspirational and celebrate everyone’s success. Everyone else will celebrate yours.
