What and where did you study?
I studied Law at the University of Manchester and the LPC at BPP Law School also in Manchester.
What did you do when you finished studying?
I was presented with the opportunity to undertake some Paralegal work in London. I then relocated back to Manchester after 18 months and was placed by BCL in an in-house Commercial Paralegal role at TalkTalk Business in Warrington whilst I continued to hunt for the elusive training contract.
What was your first Job working in the law?
As above. My first job in the law was as a paralegal in the corporate team at Freshfields. This role was mainly providing administrative support on deals, such as data room supervision, proof reading, fairly mundane tasks but it gave me a foot in the door and a stepping stone to undertake further Paralegal work.
What has been your career path to date?
As above, I’m now due to complete my training contract later this year and will be looking for NQ roles.
What do you like most about your current role?
The client contact and the fact that no two days are ever the same.
What advice can you give people who are currently finishing their LPC and are looking for work?
Stick at it and don’t knock any opportunities that might come your way. You’ll be surprised how transferable your skills can be. You may think something may be unrelated to law but on the flip side you can show some key skills that firms are looking for such as team working, organisation skills and also general commercial awareness.
