Swissport is the world's largest provider of ground and cargo handling services in the aviation industry. It handles more than 230 million passengers and 4.1 million flights per annum and manages over 133 warehouses and moves around 4.3 million tons of cargo. With a workforce of more than 62,000 personnel, Swissport is active in 48 countries across five continents, and generates consolidated operating revenue of EUR 2.7 billion.

Swissport UK & Ireland is the second largest region within the Swissport group, with an annual turnover of around €400m and 10,000 employees. Swissport is active in 27 airports, providing the following services: ground handling, flight care services, cargo and travel services.

Although there is a legal team in the head office in Zurich, the UK and Ireland business does not have its own dedicated legal counsel - something the CEO and CFO are both keen to change. As such they are looking for a lawyer who is ready to be the dedicated lawyer to a market leading business.

Reporting directly to the CEO of Swissport UK & Ireland you will be responsible for Legal and Risk Management and provide business-oriented, strategic legal support across all legal aspects of the business. This can be summarised as follows:

· Provide business oriented legal support to the Senior Management Team in the UK & Ireland across all business lines and the different functions (including Operations, Commercial, Finance and HR);
· Independently draft, negotiate and manage, in co-operation with other functions (such as Business Development and Finance), complex transactions and contracts;
· Manage legal and insurance claims against the Company in all areas including employment and commercial contract disputes;
· Identify and evaluate risks and propose solutions and guidance to mitigate risks and avoid interruptions to the business;
· Legal compliance, focusing on the companies strategic goals and governance processes;
· Manage specialised external legal advisors in the UK & Ireland where necessary.

At the heart of it, this role will suit a lawyer experienced in commercial contracting. Experience of advising on licencing agreements, property transactions, joint ventures and M&A would all be advantageous.

This is a perfect role for a lawyer already in-house who has secured a good grounding in the role of an in-house and is now ready to branch out into a position that sees them being the primary point of contact - with the support from Zurich (and externals) as and when required. Alternatively you might be in private practice seeking your first move in-house. If this is the case ideally you will have some secondment experience that will help you convey that you are ready for a move of this kind.

We are looking for a proactive, hands on, commercially driven and personable lawyer. If this sounds like you please contact Mark Levine, our exclusively appointed recruiter to find out more about this career enhancing opportunity.
