Homebase is the second largest home improvement and garden retailer in the UK & Ireland. Following our 2016 acquisition by Bunnings, the leading home improvement and outdoor living company in Australia and New Zealand, we are shifting up a gear to provide our UK&I customers with the widest range of products at the lowest prices under our new Bunnings brand.

As part of our transformation process, we have already begun an ambitious conversion of Homebase stores and Bunnings stores roll out, which has seen 13 Bunnings Warehouse stores open their doors in the UK. Legal Counsel Role

To support our investment and transformation programme, as well as our everyday commercial activities, we are seeking a commercial solicitor to work as Legal Counsel alongside our existing Head of Legal.

Operating across the whole company, you will provide: timely and commercial legal advice; assist in the negotiation and drafting of a wide range of varied, complex and high value commercial contracts; and support on a broad range of other legal issues relating to data protection, intellectual property, litigation etc.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an in-house legal team where the role will offer genuine progression and development, and to be part of a major retail transformation and investment programme.

Key Responsibilities

As Legal Counsel, you will help the business identify and assess current and future risks and benefits; develop recommendations to improve business practices; build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners; provide day to day legal support for the UK&I business; advise, review, draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts; assist the business to manage compliance issues; work on business projects and manage disputes/litigation; and assist in developing and rolling out legal training to the business.

About you

We are looking for a qualified commercial solicitor with circa 2-5 years' relevant PQE. You must possess strong commercial contract drafting and negotiating skills; have the ability to communicate with and influence stakeholders at all levels; and you should ideally have some experience of working in-house - this could come from a secondment. Experience of working in a retail environment is desired but not essential.
