This is an excellent opportunity to join an established legal function in a senior and involved legal role.
To support the Group and its essential services, an opportunity has arisen for a Senior Legal Counsel to join the Group. Reporting into the Group Legal Director, the successful candidate will be part of a close knit legal team, responsible for identifying and delivering sound, pragmatic solutions to complex and rapidly changing situations.
The role will principally focus on commercial legal matters related to bids, tenders, contracts and renewals. The Senior Legal Counsel will negotiate high value outsourcing contracts with public and private sector clients, encompassing engineering and construction (NEC3, NEC4, JCT, FIDIC), maintenance, building management, energy services and other diverse offerings.
The Senior Legal Counsel will also assist with legal advice concerning M&A, joint venture, IP and other activities relevant to the business. They will help develop and roll out new policies and procedures, provide transactional support and risk management duties, and will help to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
In the event that contract relations break down, the post-holder will also provide support on other legal and commercial issues as they arise, such as termination of contracts and formal and informal disputes, taking the lead on legal decisions and liaising with third party legal advisors as appropriate.
This is a senior level role with a high degree of responsibility and involvement in key business transactions and decisions. It is envisaged that you will have circa 7+ years PQE as a commercial solicitor however we will consider applications from candidates outside this range with suitable skills and knowledge.
Applicants with existing knowledge and experience of standard form construction contracts and/or public procurement experience are actively encouraged. Similarly, any existing experience dealing with energy services and Energy Performance Contracts is most welcome.
In addition, you should possess strong commercial contract negotiation experience, a commercial approach and a can-do attitude.
A competitive basic salary (c. £75-90k) + company car + package.
