FAMILY SOLICITOR - NEWCASTLE A top-tier firm are looking for a Family Solicitor (Financial and Dispute Resolution) who is passionate about family law to join their team in Newcastle. THE FIRM & TEAM A top-tier Legal 500 firm with a large family law department offering the full range of family law services. They strive for excellence and provide support through time and financial investment to develop your career, undertake training and achieve professional accreditations. Each family team consists of solicitors, mediators, arbitrators and collaborative lawyers, there is support through PAs and paralegals. The firm also works with a multi-disciplinary team including their own Family Consultant. THE ROLE You will manage your own caseload of financial and divorce matters. The work will primarily involve privately paid divorce and financial matters for both married and unmarried families with some private children work if desired. Key Responsibilities: - Private family law work including litigation and dispute resolution i.e., mediation and/or collaborative practice. - To achieve the best outcome for clients, upholding exceptional standards of quality and client care. - Balance the demands of your clients/caseload and non-casework responsibilities, ensuring you meet any deadlines set. - Meet annual billing and performance targets (which will be calculated in consultation with you). - Accurately record all time, chargeable and non-chargeable. - Ensure that the billing of files is carried out efficiently and at the earliest opportunity. - Maintain knowledge and skills in relevant practice area(s) keeping up to date with relevant legislation and case law. - To contribute to marketing/business development for the firm including identifying and facilitating internal cross selling opportunities and carrying out business development activities e.g. networking, blog writing. - To delegate to, assist, and work appropriately and considerately with other fee earners and support staff. - Work as a team player with other fee earners and support staff. ABOUT YOU Essential: - You will be a Qualified Solicitor with experience across the full range of divorce and financial family work. - Advocacy experience. - Good knowledge of all aspects of family law. - The ability to produce accurate work to tight deadlines. - Planning and organisational skills. - The ability to think clearly and logically and communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. - The ability to problem solve and work on own initiative. - Good IT skills. - Exceptional client care skills. - Honest, tolerant, common sense, energy and a good sense of humour. Desirable: - Qualifications e.g. Resolution specialist accreditation, family mediation accreditation, membership of panels relevant to the post. - Involvement with professional family law organisations or local voluntary or business organisations. - The ability to supervise the caseload of others effectively. - Knowledge and understanding of the firm's values. - Active interest in what the firm does and how they do it. - Empathy and understanding of problems faced by clients. - Enthusiasm for embracing the new and unfamiliar.
