In-house Data Privacy Solicitor, Leeds This major global firm has a significant in-house legal team, with in-house Counsel based in a number of different offices but with the majority based out of its northern powerhouse office in Leeds. The Governance team forms a significant part of the in-house legal function and has created a robust platform for managing governance and risk across all parts of the business. A key area for governance and risk across the business is data privacy, and there is a dedicated team which looks after this area, based out of the Leeds office. They are looking to further expand and are now looking to make another in-house Counsel hire at the junior end, having recuited an NQ Solicitor earlier this year. The team and the opportunity - Join a dedicated team of ten lawyers who work closely together on this side of the business - Also benefit from support from the national client-facing data privacy team which has an excellent reputation in this area - Work with colleagues to advise the firm as a global business on all aspects of GDPR compliance and other data protection regulations - Advise on data subject requests, data privacy impact assessments and data breaches - Help support the development and management of a robust data governance programme - Work closely with the IT team on data security, data loss prevention and cyber issues and incidents - Get involved in day-to-day data privacy matters as well as the development and roll-out of firm-wide data privacy compliance projects More about you - You will most likely be a junior Solicitor (NQ up to around 3PQE) qualified in the UK who has gained some exposure to data privacy work and you are keen to develop your skills in this area in an in-house setting - Alternatively you may have qualified in another country, with relevant experience, and you're looking to develop your career in the UK - You may potentially have not qualified as a solicitor yet but have gained relevant data privacy experience as a legal adviser in an in-house setting - You will have solid academics and be based within part-time commuting distance of Leeds Benefits - Market-leading salary and benefits package - Access to all the same training and development opportunities as a lawyer on the fee earning side of the business - A really friendly and approachable team of lawyers to work with, who work well together to achieve common aims - A flexible working pattern based around 2 days in the office, with the remainder of the week from home. Different working patterns are also considered but this is not a fully remote role, and is based out of the Leeds office - Opportunities to study for specific data privacy qualifications - Opportunities for sponsorship for candidates with strong relevant experience If this sounds like an opportunity that you'd like to explore, please get in touch. Informal conversations with the head of the data privacy team are an option for individuals who want to find out more before committing to a formal interview process.
