Interim Head of Legal

You will join a market-leading, science-led research group that is at the cutting edge of improving the built environment through research & knowledge generation. The products they create are world leading and they have an international client base across the public & private sectors. The business is looking for a Head of Legal to join their established Legal team in Watford. You will offer strategic & commercial advice at board level while playing a hands-on role in developing the Legal function. This position is offered on an initial 12-18 month FTC, with a high likelihood of the contract lasting for 2+ years, if not being converted to a permanent role. The Role You will lead an existing Legal team of three, replacing the existing Head of Legal who is moving into an exec/strategic role within the business. You will have full autonomy to shape the Legal function, responsible for hiring additional heads if needed and supporting the team's ongoing development. The work you will be involved in is challenging & varied and will include, supply service agreements, consultancy agreements, licences, confidentiality agreements, SaaS, MSAs, disputes & litigation, corporate re-organisations, acquisitions & disposals. You can also expect to get involved at a strategic level, with input into key decisions that will affect the business' long term trajectory. The Person · This position will suit a Commercial Lawyer with 10+ years PQE · Experience gained across a broad range of commercial contracts · Some corporate and litigation experience is highly desirable · You will be comfortable managing a team · Able to manage a legal spend budget effectively Based in Watford, the business fully embraces hybrid working, with no more than one day per week being spent in the office.
