- Legal Counsel
London Luton Airport (LLA) is one of the UK's largest airports, with 11 airlines flying to 149 destinations in 40 countries. It has doubled in size from 2010 and has carried over 17.5 million passengers in 2019. To facilitate this growth and provide a more customer friendly experience, London Luton Airport has invested over £160 million to transform the airport and increase capacity.
There are additional major projects under way, including the creation of a new Direct Air to Rail Transit (DART) rail link between Luton Airport Parkway station and the airport terminal.
Working at the airport is like working in a small city with shops, restaurants, a fire service and dedicated police force. The airport's rapid growth and ongoing major redevelopment has created an opportunity for an additional commercial lawyer to join the expanding team. Working with the existing team and reporting to the award winning General Counsel, the Legal Counsel will provide essential pragmatic legal and commercial advice to the airport, and will be involved in negotiations with the airports counterparties. This can include advice on general commercial, procurement, construction law and compliance amongst other areas.
The airport operates in a competitive, fast paced, rapidly evolving and commercial environment and works with a broad range of organisations. This includes airlines, retailers, transport, construction and facilities management companies. To ensure success, the successful candidate will need to learn and understand how an airport works and how the business impacts on various stakeholders and other organisations.
This Legal Counsel role would suit a 4-7 years' PQE solicitor with demonstrable working knowledge of commercial law and solid experience of drafting and negotiating contracts and agreements. A willingness to learn about other areas of law such as procurement and construction is important, as is an interest in compliance and the ability to work autonomously in a rapidly evolving and highly commercial business.
In exchange for your efforts you will receive a competitive basic salary, company pension, private healthcare through BUPA, profit share, company sickness pay and life insurance. There is also a cycle to work scheme and seasonal staff discounts/offers.
