Top workplace ‘perks’ at BCL Legal
It’s true what they say, working in the recruitment industry come with its perks!
Employees work hard in jobs they care about, so having a bit of fun with your colleagues and being able to ‘let your hair down’ every once in a while is an absolute must to enhance employee engagement and boost team morale.
- Ping pong or pool table in the office
- Friday lunch or beer
- Company nights out
- Office activities
- A swanky coffee machine
So, how does BCL measure up in line with the above? As someone who has been with the company for nearly three years, I can safely say the answer to this question is: very well indeed!
Granted, we don’t have a ping pong table, but we do have a fantastic lounge area in our Manchester office that feels like the Central Perk set in Friends. Here, we can chill out, read a book or watch a bit of TV if we need a minute away from our computer screens. Working in recruitment can be stressful at times, so having a space where you can get away from your desk makes a massive difference.
But first, coffee… and an office dog?
Fancy coffee is a given with our office Nespresso machine! Also, we often have our lovely canine friend Alfie wandering around the place (courtesy of our in-house Managing Director Mark Levine); he’s a happy little chappy sure to brighten anyone’s day.
In addition to the impromptu team ‘Wine Wednesday’, BCL has many additional team events and nights out that we all get the opportunity to participate in. Our legendary Friday Flyer events have seen our top-performing billers take first-class trains to London to dine at Michelin Star restaurants, take boat trips down the Thames, enjoy a day at a luxury spa, or a round of clay pigeon shooting. We celebrate success in a big way at BCL! Our end of quarter events see the whole BCL crew from London, Birmingham and Manchester get together to celebrate the wins of the quarter and catch up over drinks (and the occasional jaeger bomb – a staple favourite of our CEO James Batt).
It’s a proven fact that employees start to wind down for the weekend after lunchtime on a Friday and productivity starts to drop when that ‘Friday feeling’ creeps in. At BCL, we openly acknowledge this fact with ‘Fizz Friday’ – my favourite part of the week (being our Fizz Friday champion that sets up the kitchen ready for Friday fun). There’s nothing better than hearing the pop of a cork or the clink of a cold beer at 4 p.m.! It signals to all that the weekend is nearly here.
In addition, BCL is proud to support the Booth Centre, a Manchester-based charity committed to tackling homelessness by working alongside every attendee of the centre. This year, several of our team are excited to be taking part in the Manchester Sleepout (in aid of the Booth Centre) on Friday 8th November 2019 – a fantastic opportunity to get together as a team for an exceptionally good cause. This is just one example of the many events we’re able to attend as a team. This year, a majority of the Manchester team have spent a morning volunteering at the centre too.
We spend so much time with the people we work with at BCL, both in and out of the office. We’ve even been on holiday together for the weekend (several times) to celebrate a year well done. Take a look at our Instagram @bcllegallife to look at our fantastic five-star weekend trip to Barcelona (2019) and Palma in 2018.
All-in-all, BCL is a fantastic place to work on the perks front! If you’re a recruiter, how does this compare to your current workplace perks? As BCL’s national Talent Acquisition Executive I’m incredibly passionate about sourcing fantastic individuals to join our growing team. If you’d like to have an informal chat, please do get in touch! I’d be delighted to tell you more about what it’s like to be part of the BCL Legal team.
