Graduate vacancies are set to increase by more than 10% in 2014, according to the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR).

With business confidence and growth predictions beginning to improve, employers look set to increase their graduate recruitment levels this year, following an increase of 4.3% in graduate vacancies in 2013.

Sectors predicted to see a growth in vacancies this year include IT & telecoms (40%), public sector (20%), energy (18%), and banking & financial services (16%). Stephen Isherwood, AGR chief executive officer, says: “Given the upturn in the economy, and the slight increase in graduate vacancies recorded last year, we’d expect employer predictions to be fairly buoyant for the year ahead; so an expected rise of over 10% is welcome news.”

BCL Legal noted a marked increase in the number of instructions it received in the last quarter of 2014 which has carried on into 2014. Director Vicky Clark explained that “we have increased the number of legal consultants in the business by 38% in the last 3 months just to cater for the demands of our existing clients. We thought we would have seen a dip in clients instructing us on new jobs at the start of the year however January has continued where Q4 left off. We are increasing our staffing levels with extremely competent and highly experienced legal recruiters, three of who we know very well and have worked with in the past, as well as former lawyers from leading firm Pannone and a niche family firm in the Midlands”.
