BCL Legal attends the University of Law London Leavers’ Fair
On Monday 23rd June BCL Legal attended the Leavers’ fair at the University of Law in Bloomsbury.
The fair is an opportunity for students of the University of Law, who have just completed their LPC or BPTC, to meet organisations who can provide law graduates with opportunities after their studies.
Some of the graduates we met had already secured their training contracts but weren’t due to start with their firms until next September and in some cases not until 2015. Other graduates we met had found themselves in a position where they have finished their academic and practical training but had not yet secured a training contract; such is the high competition for training contracts and pupillages. The Leavers’ Fair provided both groups of graduates an opportunity to meet organisations who can assist them in securing paralegal work or other law related work.
Law firms take on graduates and in certain legal disciplines, such as litigation, they take on large numbers of graduates. Throughout my legal recruitment career I have encountered a common question asked by many graduates namely “most recruiters say I need at least six months’ experience to be considered for a job but how do I gain that initial six months experience”?
To help graduates and especially those who have less than six months’ experience BCL Legal created a service called BCL Graduates, a web based portal which we provide to our law firm and in-house clients as a way for them to search for law graduates. It’s a simple portal and for graduates seeking a job all they have to do is register on the website, complete the CV builder wizard and upload their CV. Law graduate employers can then search and recruit graduates directly.
Law firms seeking graduates need only to register with BCL Graduates and then can search for legal graduates using a comprehensive list of drop down menus to find their perfect graduates.
