Highs and lows of the current conveyancing market

There is no doubt that the conveyancing market has improved but law firms on the high street are still cautious. Whilst it is no longer gloom and doom these firms are tending to increase the size of caseload rather than recruit additional fee earners. Firms remain concerned about the rising costs of insurance, ever increasing compliance issues with the greatest threat coming from lenders’ panel selection decisions.

However if you are a residential property specialist and are looking to make a move, all is not lost as volume conveyancing firms and volume conveyancing departments of more commercial firms are expanding significantly and are going from strength to strength.

These firms have a great deal to offer including career progression, on-going professional training and development, forward thinking, modern working practices with the latest IT and case management systems as well as competitive remuneration packages. All levels of experience can be considered and due to the nature of their business and how the teams are structured, are able to consider fee earners who have been out of the law for sometime or who are keen to move into/return to conveyancing. Typically, these firms are also more able to consider part time roles too.

When applying for residential property roles, a genuine enthusiasm and passion for conveyancing is needed, as is commercial acumen, particularly in today’s economic climate. If you hadn’t thought of working for a volume provider before now, this is the time to give them serious consideration.
