Improving property market means residential conveyancing lawyers are in demand!

The news we have all been waiting for!! House sales and enquiries are up, better mortgage deals are available on the high street and the number of first time buyers is at its highest for five years!! The Government’s Funding for Lending scheme has certainly increased market confidence. £7.6bn was advanced to first time buyers in the last quarter of 2012 which was an increase of 14% on the same period last year. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors has gone as far as to say “the very worst may be over”!! Hooray!!

Before we start hanging out the bunting, it is fair to say the recovery is fairly localised and some large cities are still feeling the pain but there is an increasing demand for residential property lawyers across the regions. BCL Legal are currently recruiting for a large number of firms who are looking for solicitors, legal executives or conveyancers with a minimum of 12 months fee earning experience in residential property. Remortgage specialists are also in demand.

So, what makes a good residential property lawyer? When applying for residential property roles, you will not only need a strong CV but will need to stand out from the crowd as competition for roles is fierce. Firms are looking for a solid career history as well as additional experience in marketing and business development. The ability to handle all aspects of the conveyancing process from initial instruction through to post completion is particularly attractive. A good level of IT skills is also a pre-requisite as most firms utilise a case management system. Experience in handling all manner of conveyancing is also preferred from first time buyers through to HNW properties. Above all else, a genuine enthusiasm and passion for conveyancing is needed as is commercial acumen, particularly in today’s economic climate.
