Leeds continues to dominate as the leading legal centre outside of London

Leeds has long been considered a major force throughout the UK and international legal communities, with other Yorkshire cities, Sheffield, York, Hull and Bradford all offering an impressive selection of firms.
Each of the ‘Big Six’ firms has offices in Leeds possibly because of the city’s thriving financial centre and convenient transport links to London and the city is described in The Legal 500 as “second only to London”.
Freeth Cartwright is the latest firm to look to expand into Leeds with other firms looking to further expand their presence in the city.

As mentioned in The Lawyer recently, ’single one-office Leeds firm Walker Morris remains one of the UK's more profitable outfits, Lupton Fawcett Lee & Priestley has set its sights on regional domination’ and ‘even global behemoths like Squire Sanders and DLA Piper are continuing to promote in Leeds’ as are Eversheds who have centralised some of their service offerings in their Leeds office.

In addition, the University of Law, the UK’s longest-established specialist provider of legal education and training, is planning to open a new campus in Leeds to be at the epicentre of this thriving legal hub. This is great news for Leeds’ firms since it can only increase the volume of high calibre graduates moving into the market, ensuring great talent and excellence for the future.
