Making time for an interview

Sometimes making the decision to start to look for a new role feels like the biggest hurdle. It’s a big step, and if you have been in your current role for a number of years it can seem quite daunting. However, what happens when you’re invited to interview?

Interviews take time. It’s can be a frustrating part of the process – and if the locations (and Partners’ diaries) allow for it we will always do our best to try and schedule your interviews around lunchtimes, end of the day, early in the morning – but there are several times and occasions when this is just not possible. It may be that you are looking to relocate to London or another location, or that as part of your interview process you need to allow a longer period of time (perhaps there is a technical assessment or you will meet with a number of the team).

Whilst we all like to save our annual leave for holidays and fun days off – it may be worth thinking about how you are going to deal with the numerous interview requests that will come in. I am a firm believer in keeping up momentum – if the interview requests are coming in quickly then that suggests a sense of urgency from the client’s side. Ideally, if you are able to allocate 2-3 annual leave days to your job search you will find that the entire process of getting these arranged (as well as having the time to prepare and fully debrief after each interview) will be so much smoother. You may also find that you’re able to focus a little more on the interview as you don’t have to worry about being missing from your desk.

Ultimately, as your recruitment consultants, BCL Legal are here to help. I completely appreciate that you don’t want to use all of your annual leave up for interviews – but please do consider it an investment in your future! We will try our hardest to arrange interviews at times that work for you – but in some circumstances compromise is key!
