Out of your comfort zone?

We recently sponsored a FELT event involving whisky tasting; now I’m not really a fan of whiskey but I wanted to go along and see if it was for me.

I am proud to say I tried 6 different types of whiskey (including one that was so strong I only managed 1 sip!) and met a lot of great people.

Lawyers can have trepidations about going to meet a new firm; you can feel apprehensive or have a last minute panic as you step into the unknown. The reality is there is no negative from attending an interview. You must have been interested enough in the firm and the role to have registered your interest initially.

At best you find a firm and team that are a much better fit than your current opportunity and never look back. At worst it reinforces that you are not actually unhappy in your current workplace (still not a negative!) You could make a great contact for the future in your interviewer, as you never know when your paths may cross again, or indeed if your circumstances have changed and it is now the right time for you to make a change.

I can’t say that I will now be a regular whisky drinker by any means, but do I regret trying it? Absolutely not! Thanks again to FELT rep Adam Hattersley for organising such a great event, Adam commented:

"It was a fantastic night and a big thanks again to BCL for their on going support of FELT and MTSG as a whole. We have had really good feedback on the event and the whiskey tasting seemed the perfect setting for young lawyers across Manchester to meet one another and let their hair down"
