To be or not to be part of the CLC

With residential property once again booming, there are some strong arguments for converting to CLC (Council of Licensed Conveyancers). The profession, which was created by Act of Parliament over 25 years ago is increasing in recognition all the time. Many of the major players in the market are regulated by the CLC to ensure licence holders qualify through better practice skills and knowledge. This is a benefit to the public as they can have peace of mind that they are buying well regulated services.

What do the CLC do? They set educational standards for entry into the conveyancing sector, they issue licenses to practice to those qualified, they set standards, monitor work and provide advice and guidance to regulated bodies, they will investigate allegations of misconduct and finally collaborate with key stakeholders in the legal services industry to monitor and shape future policy.

Why convert to CLC? Licensed conveyancers are regarded as good risk by mortgage lenders who are in many instances preferring Licensed Conveyancers in their panel membership criteria.
