Why I chose to work in a new recruitment sector

Having worked in recruitment for three years prior to joining BCL Legal, I got to the point in my career where I was ready for a new challenge.

Recruitment is such a fantastic career: it’s exciting, fast-paced and ever-changing, which will keep you on your toes. You get to speak to lots of people on a daily basis and you’re given a chance to make a positive impact on the lives of jobseekers by finding them their dream job, or finding the client the perfect candidate. You certainly get a buzz out of your day!

Why I chose BCL Legal

BCL Legal is a market leader within the industry. Despite my FMCG background, I’d heard of BCL Legal, which in my opinion, says a lot.

Having never worked in legal recruitment before, it was of course daunting to start a new desk, even as a recruiter; gaining new clients and candidates, and learning about a brand new sector. Essentially, recruitment is about building and maintaining excellent working relationships, so I was going in blind.

BCL Legal’s support and development has been second to none. In recruitment you often hear the term ‘warm desk’. I’ve always been sceptical - until I started at BCL. The quality and number of the relationships the agency’s established with top legal firms over the past 15 years are very impressive, and a cold call is not something to worry about here.

Is 2019 the year for a career change?

You’re also provided the opportunity to work with one of the best recruitment trainers in the industry, which gives you a fantastic platform to perform well. Recruitment is an ever-changing industry, and BCL Legal makes sure we’re up-to-date with all the latest recruitment training and skills.


Teamwork is another reason why I love BCL. I work within the residential conveyancing team and every single person supports you on a daily basis. We have a mixture of consultants, some with legal backgrounds (which is so beneficial for consultants coming from a non-legal background) and others with recruitment backgrounds, which makes for such a good mix. We encourage each other every day, celebrating the highlights and maintaining positivity if someone’s having a tough month.


Progression paths are transparent. If you hit objective performance measures you’ll get promoted. BCL gives you the tools to succeed, and its investment in technology gives you a competitive advantage. You will be rewarded.

Late last year I passed my probation with BCL Legal and I honestly couldn’t be happier in my job. I was nervous making the move to legal, but with the support of the directors and consultants, it’s been a fantastic, and quick, few months. I can’t wait to continue to grow and develop at BCL, and help talented legal professionals fulfil their career ambitions.
