Why work for the rest, when you can work for the best

Five years’ ago I sat in a six month review meeting with my Associate Director James Brewster and talked very openly about wanting to build the biggest and most successful commercial legal recruitment team in Birmingham. Very specifically this included wanting to open up a sizeable gap over my two closest competitors at the time and place more people into law firms across the Midlands than any other legal recruiter.

Having just passed the five year anniversary of that meeting it has been interesting to reflect on an incredible journey, as BCL Legal have genuinely built Birmingham's most successful contingent private practice legal recruitment team. This sits hand in hand with the phenomenal work that Victoria Moore and the team undertake on the in-house side.

As you can imagine it is a source of some pride for me to be a key part of that growth and to be managing the biggest legal recruitment team in Birmingham City Centre. The reality is that I was able to achieve my part of the plan because I work for the best.

What does “working for the best” mean in a legal recruitment setting? It can mean having a superb candidate attraction strategy that is different and more effective than other recruiters in the market place.

It can mean having working processes and a level of accountability that ensure that we always provide outstanding service to our clients.

It might mean consistent delivery of service over a number of years’ that has facilitated the creation of client relationships that are second to none.

For some it could mean being at the forefront of technological innovations that make a real impact to a consultant’s ability to do their job successfully.

It could mean a dedicated training and induction structure that helps to develop technical recruitment skills and has actually applicability to running a desk.

Or it could just mean working in an office with a fantastic atmosphere, full of “normal” people who also happen to be determined to achieve great things.

To my mind, in the legal recruitment market, BCL Legal lead the way in all of these things.
