Work anniversaries – how do they make you feel?

I have just had my 1 year work anniversary at BCL Legal. It’s a great time for me to reflect upon the good times that I have had – including my successes and achievements, the excellent Christmas party and the working relationships that I have developed (with candidates, clients and colleagues). I have had the chance to discuss my performance with my manager and have also developed in my role so that I am more autonomous. All-in-all, it’s been a brilliant year! I feel that I work for a company that is very supportive, has assisted me in my development and most importantly, is somewhere that I look forward to coming to on a Monday morning (even when it is raining)!

With all of this in mind, it makes me wonder how you’re feeling about your looming/recent work anniversary. Do you look back over the past year with a smile and see the opportunity for growth and progression in your future? Do you feel that you can have open and frank discussions with your line managers and senior members of your team? Do you enjoy spending time with your team (and if not, is this something that would be important to you)? We all know how long we have to spend at work – 35-40 hours a week with the same people, doing a very particular role. The good news is that, if you are frustrated in your current role, we can help you. At BCL Legal we spend our time getting to know both yourself and our clients. We will spend just as much time telling why roles can fit as to why they may not work. We aren’t pushy, we just want to make sure that we achieve the win/win for both of our clients and candidates.

As your work anniversary approaches, just think about how you feel about your work and career. Sometimes, using us as a sounding board also means that we can give you a realistic overview of the current market – the opportunities available to you right now and what opportunities you may have if you choose to wait a little bit longer. In the meantime, I’m off to blow out some work birthday candles!
