Yorkshire V’s London

How can you even compare the two I hear you ask…

As I recruit within residential property across Yorkshire, I’m going to suggest a few reasons to consider making the move from the big smoke:

• House prices – it’s no big secret that the cost of a two bedroom flat in London could buy you a Grade II listed detached house with land in Yorkshire • National parks – where are the national parks in London? There aren’t any. Yorkshire has two! North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. And we all know fresh country air is the best tonic in the world to blow away the stresses of the week! • Happiness – Rightmove carried out a survey, which concluded the happiest people in the UK lived in Harrogate! • Cycling – Cycle on the roads of London if you dare! Yorkshire has the Calder Valley Greenway and was also chosen for the Tour De France!

York has become one of North’s best performing property markets and 17% of buyers in the area looking to purchase prime property are from London.

St Leanoard’s Place, which is a historic Grade II* listed crescent has been granted planning permission for a major restoration project, which will also include other adjoining properties on Museum Street.

Yorkshire property company Rushbond secured planning and will look to restore five townhouses and 29 apartments to meet the demand for high quality homes. The development will appeal to national and international (as well as local) buyers looking to secure a home in this landmark building. This should also open the floodgates to further similar developments in this city of rich architectural heritage.

York, Leeds, Sheffield and Bradford also offer fantastic transport links for anyone wanting to return to London at weekends!

In addition to the above, I also read an article on hotels in Yorkshire outperforming London in terms of revenue growth for the first time in 14 years! BDO released a report called Hotel Britain 2015, which showed an increase in revenue per room in Leeds & Sheffield (the highest at 16%), York and Bradford. London in comparison saw a 0.7% increase.

The demand for rooms saw occupancy rise to 75.1%, which is the first time it has reached these figures in over ten years with York taking first place at 82%. This highlights an increase in consumer confidence and a boost to the local economy.

All of the above is fantastic news for the Yorkshire region and for the residential property market and is clearly reflected in the high demand for experienced conveyancers across the board. Now is a fantastic time to take to consider relocation. If you are considering making the move, feel free to contact Nicola Scahillfor a confidential discussion or visit our website BCL Legal.

And most importantly, move to Yorkshire for the good old fashioned, charming pubs and Yorkshire pudding!!
