In-house Data Protection Manager - National Law Firm - Birmingham
Data Protection Manager required to work in-house at a leading national law firm in a non-fee earning capacity. The Birmingham office of a large national firm is seeking an experienced data protection professional to join its risk and compliance team and help to lead on internal data protection for the team. This role offers a high degree of flexibility and can be carried out on a largely remote basis.
The Role
The successful applicant will be responsible for implementing and maintaining an information governance framework to support efficient, compliant and ethical processing of data, including assigning ownership and defining roles/responsibilities. In particular, they will:
· have ownership for ensuring that all information assets, policies, procedures and controls comply with industry good practice, as well as the legal and regulatory needs of the business
· play a critical role in identifying, articulating, reporting and managing the risks associated with information governance and data protection compliance
· provide support towards compliance with certifications and accreditations, including ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus
· collaborate closely with the firm's Information Security Manager to ensure that data protection compliance is considered alongside cyber/information security
· provide expert guidance in raising awareness and training to develop the risk awareness within firm
Candidate Requirements
The successful Data Protection Manager will:
· have at least five years' experience in data protection and privacy work at a strategic level
· will be able to demonstrate that you are able to work autonomously.
have excellent drafting and technical skills
· have a good understanding of current and future legislative requirements of data protection including Data Protection Act, GDPR and Digital Information Bill
· have excellent communication skills and the ability to explain and advise succinctly on technical issues to non-technical individuals, including writing reports for senior management
