Contentious Construction Associate / Senior Associate | 3+ PQE | National Role | Hybrid Working
The Opportunity
A leading national law firm is seeking to appoint ambitious Associates and Senior Associates into its expanding contentious construction team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected practice acting on major, complex construction and engineering disputes across the UK. The team is known for its involvement in high-value infrastructure, development and remediation projects, offering a chance to work with high-profile clients and industry specialists. You'll be joining a dynamic, partner-led team that continues to experience significant growth and is widely recognised for the quality, scale and diversity of its work.
The Role
You will handle a broad spectrum of contentious construction matters, including:
· Claims relating to delay, disruption, cost escalation and defects
· Building safety claims, including cladding and fire safety issues
· Adjudications, arbitrations, mediations and Technology and Construction Court litigation
· Strategic dispute avoidance and early resolution advice
· Support on live project issues through a project counsel model
While the focus is primarily contentious, the team is open to candidates with mixed experience who wish to continue developing across both contentious and non-contentious workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
· Running complex, high-value construction disputes from inception to resolution
· Advising on building safety matters and regulatory compliance
· Managing adjudications and other forms of dispute resolution
· Drafting pleadings, correspondence and strategic legal opinions
· Supporting senior lawyers on large-scale litigation and arbitration
· Building strong client relationships and contributing to business development
· Providing guidance to junior team members and contributing to the wider practice's growth
About You
You will be a qualified solicitor (UK or foreign qualified with UK experience) with:
· 3+ PQE in contentious construction law
· Strong experience handling construction disputes, ideally including building safety claims
· Solid technical knowledge of construction law and dispute resolution processes
· Excellent communication, drafting and client-handling skills
· A commercial, solutions-focused approach
· A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with enthusiasm for contributing to a high-performing national practice
The Team
You will be joining a large and well-established construction group comprising:
· 7 partners and over 20 other legal professionals, from legal directors to paralegals
· A diverse client base, including:
o Developers, contractors, sub-contractors and consultants
o Insurers, investors and financial institutions
o Public authorities, higher education bodies and utilities providers
o Energy and infrastructure operators
The team advises on:
· Major development and infrastructure schemes
· Remediation and building safety projects
· Power generation and process engineering matters
· Urban regeneration, transport, telecoms, waste, water and utilities projects
You will gain exposure to adjudication, TCC litigation, arbitration, mediation and other ADR processes, as well as advisory work on live projects.
