BCL Legal is excited to partner with a leading national law firm to recruit an Associate for their Public and Administrative Law team. The Role
As an Associate in Public and Administrative Law, your responsibilities will include:
· Working directly with government departments, regulatory bodies, and local authorities on high-profile, nationally significant matters spanning health, education, transport, audit, conservation, rural affairs, and marine issues.
· Supporting senior lawyers in advising clients on a wide range of constitutional and administrative matters, including vires analysis, legislative drafting, statutory interpretation, regulatory regimes, governance, and judicial review.
· Providing advice on administrative and public law risk, statutory interpretation, and understanding of information law, including FOIA, DPA, and EIR.
· Working closely with in-house legal teams and instructing leading counsel.
· Taking responsibility for your caseload under the supervision of more senior lawyers.
· Preparing and presenting seminars, writing copy and reports, and contributing to marketing efforts.
· Monitoring critical dates and ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
· Recording time promptly and meeting financial targets.
About You
To be considered for this role, you should possess:
· Experience working with or for the public sector, particularly central government, devolved administrations, local government, the NHS, or regulatory authorities.
· Experience in advising on statutory and administrative law obligations and vires, and familiarity with conducting or defending judicial reviews.
· A keen interest or experience in legislative drafting for central or devolved governments or arms-length bodies.
· Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal issues and provide clear, concise advice.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· The ability to work under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
· Familiarity with IT tools (Microsoft Office 365, case management systems, and AI).
