Legal Counsel

Company: Our client is a leading provider of engineering, building and construction and project management services, and it's client base includes major PLCs, large multinationals, and local and central government organisations. The company has involvement in a wide range of projects and services, including design and build projects, mechanical and electrical infrastructure matters, design commissions and managment, and maintenance and improvement works. The company office is located in Glasgow, and it is envisaged you will spend 2-3 days in the office. Role - Legal Counsel: This is a superb opportunity for a recently qualified Solicitor t/ Legal Counsel o move in-house, and to undertake a varied role with a focus on construction contracts. Applications are encouraged from solicitors who have existing experience in construction or projects, either post-qualification, and/or as part of your training contract, and you should have a strong desire to work in-house in a varied environment where you can apply your commercial mindset to interesting legal challenges. Key Responsibilities of the role include: - Reviewing new business opportunities and advise on a variety of construction and services contracts; - Negotiating commercial terms and support the business in identifying and mitigating legal and commercial risks; - Guiding internal teams through governance, approval processes, and compliance requirements; - Supporting the development and delivery of legal training within the division; - Collaborating with colleagues across the legal team to enhance policies and strategic initiatives; - Build strong working relationships with operational, commercial, and finance teams to deliver timely, practical legal advice; - Assisting with dispute-related matters, contract terminations, payment issues, and other day-to-day legal queries; - Developing and maintaining a comprehensive precedent bank to support efficient drafting; - Instructing and managing external legal advisers, ensuring advice is clear, commercial, and actionable. About You: It is anticipated that you will be a Scotland and/or England & Wales qualified Solicitor (NQ-3 years' PQE), and that you will have some experience and/or knowledge of construction law. Existing exposure to standard form contracts (e.g. JCT, NEC, FIDIC) is advantageous, although training on the specifics can and will be provided. For those looking to move into construction work, you will ideally have some demonstrable knowledge of construction law, and/or you will possess experience of complex commercial contracting work. In addition to the above legal experience, you should be comfortable working in a fast-paced business, and handling a varied caseload of projects, and commercial legal matters. You should have an inquiring mind that wants to learn, and ideally you will demonstrate a proactive and flexible approach. What's on offer?
