Commercial Legal Counsel (Transport & Infrastructure Projects) Location: Liverpool (Hybrid & Flexible Working) Experience level: c. 4+ years' PQE The Opportunity This is a rare opportunity for a Commercial Solicitor / Commercial Legal Counsel to work on some of the most significant transport, infrastructure and decarbonisation projects in the North West of England. Joining a progressive public sector organisation, you will advise on high-value commercial contracts and procurement activity supporting the transformation of regional transport networks, and assist in the delivery of ambitious net-zero projects and objectives. The role offers a unique blend of commercial contracts, public procurement and infrastructure work, with visibility at senior levels, plus the opportunity to work on projects with tangible public impact. The Role As part of a specialist in-house legal projects team, as Commercial Counsel you will: - Draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of commercial contracts, including funding, services, IT and marketing agreements; - Provide legal support on public procurement and governance matters; - Advise on major transport and infrastructure programmes, including rail, bus and smart ticketing initiatives; - Support large-scale decarbonisation and sustainability projects, including public sector retrofits and renewable energy schemes; - Work closely with commercial, technical and policy teams to enable project delivery. Although experience in construction or projects law would be advantageous, the role is firmly commercial and advisory in focus, rather than technically niche. Applications are encouraged from commercial solicitors with private and/or public sector experience. About You You will be a qualified solicitor with around 4+ years' PQE. You should possess strong experience in commercial contracts and/or procurement matters. Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, and the confidence to manage complex, high-value legal matters in-house is a must. The role comes with a generous benefits package, which will include above average holiday allowance, flexible and family friendly working hours, wellbeing and learning opportunities, and a substantial pension contribution. The role is strategic and commercial, with plenty of quality work that is both varied and of high-calibre. You will have the opportunity to work on headline transport and infrastructure projects with long-term regional impact. BCL Legal is an equal opportunities employer.
