Senior/Principal Associate - Commercial Litigation (Public Procurement & Complex Disputes) | Market-Leading Firm | Birmingham | Hybrid
BCL Legal is pleased to be working on an excellent opportunity for a Senior/Principal Associate to join a leading commercial litigation team within a highly regarded national firm. The successful candidate will be based in the Birmingham office, working as part of a collaborative national team with hybrid working on offer.
The Role:
As a Senior/Principal Associate in the Corporate and Commercial Litigation Division, you will be involved in and/or lead commercial disputes, with a particular focus on public procurement disputes and complex contractual disputes. The role is primarily advisory in nature, supporting public sector clients across a range of sectors.
You will work closely with colleagues across the firm's national offices and play a key role in the continued development of the commercial litigation practice.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading and managing commercial disputes, with a focus on public procurement and complex contractual matters.
Advising public sector clients including those in healthcare, local government, emergency services, and social housing.
Handling disputes arising from the full lifecycle of projects, including procurement, design and construction, operational issues, payment disputes, fire safety disputes, and termination and expiry matters.
Taking early responsibility for High Court litigation and all forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Managing client relationships and working confidently with external counsel and experts.
Collaborating with both contentious and non-contentious colleagues to deliver high-quality, joined-up advice across the team.
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years' PQE and experience handling public procurement disputes and complex commercial disputes, with a strong understanding of public sector work.
Key skills and experience include:
Experience advising on public procurement disputes and complex commercial disputes.
Excellent drafting, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Confidence managing clients, external counsel, and experts.
Ability to prioritise work effectively while maintaining strong attention to detail.
A proactive, motivated approach with the ability to contribute to collaborative working across a national team.
A desire to develop leadership skills and help drive the growth of the commercial litigation practice.
