Planning Lawyer | London
This is an exceptional opportunity to join one of the UK's most respected real estate planning teams, acting on some of the country's most high-profile and complex infrastructure, environmental and development projects.
Our client is a top-tier national law firm with a widely recognised and award-winning planning team. They act for major developers, infrastructure providers and public bodies across a broad spectrum of sectors including renewable energy, residential and commercial development, transport, waste and minerals, and major regeneration projects.
Their planning lawyers are at the forefront of legal developments in the UK, advising on nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIPs), garden villages, airport expansions, offshore wind farms and more. This is a chance to be part of a highly collaborative and innovative practice that's shaping the future of the UK's built environment.
The Role:
Due to continued growth and increased client demand, the firm is now looking to appoint a Senior Planning Lawyer to play a key role in the delivery of complex and high-value matters. You will work closely with leading partners and a well-structured team of lawyers, delivering a diverse mix of advisory, project-led and contentious work.
Key responsibilities will include:-
- Advising on large-scale development consent orders (DCOs) and nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIPs)
- Compulsory purchase and compensation matters, including CPO strategies and implementation
- Drafting and negotiating Section 106 and Section 278 agreements
- Strategic planning advice and risk management for complex schemes
- Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), including review and coordination of environmental statements
- Planning inquiries, judicial reviews and related advocacy support
- Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to team development
Candidate Requirements:
We are keen to speak with UK-qualified solicitors (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5 years' post-qualified experience gained in a recognised planning practice.
You will bring:-
- A strong understanding of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and, ideally, the Planning Act 2008
- Proven experience of advising on planning agreements and infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with highway agreements and environmental assessments
- A track record of managing planning inquiries and/or judicial review proceedings
- Experience leading or supporting large project teams, and mentoring junior colleagues
- A genuine passion for the planning and infrastructure space
What's on Offer?
This is a rare opportunity to handle premium planning work outside of the London bubble, without compromising on quality or career development.
You'll benefit from:-
- Market-leading work in nationally significant planning and infrastructure matters
- A supportive and inclusive culture with real emphasis on work/life balance
- Hybrid working options and a flexible approach to hours and location
- Strong commitment to mental health, wellbeing and professional growth
- A collegiate team where your voice is heard and your progression is championed

Whether you're looking for a full-time or part-time role, or need flexibility in your working pattern, they are open to tailoring the role around the right individual.
If you're a planning solicitor looking for the next step in your career, whether you're currently in private practice or working in-house or in local government, we'd love to hear from you. This is your opportunity to join a firm that combines national reach with genuine local insight, and where you'll be supported to thrive.
