Professional Support Lawyer - Construction | International Law Firm | City of London This is a rare opportunity for a senior solicitor to join the growing Construction & Projects team at a leading international law firm, taking on a highly visible position focused on knowledge, innovation, client engagement, and legal excellence. As a Professional Support Lawyer (PSL), you'll play a critical role in shaping the firm's construction knowledge strategy, supporting major domestic and international projects, and advising on cutting-edge legal and market developments. You'll collaborate closely with partners, senior stakeholders, and clients to drive innovation, harness legal technology, and support client delivery across infrastructure, energy, education, and development sectors. This is an ideal opportunity for a senior construction lawyer who thrives on strategic thinking, mentoring, and legal innovation who is looking for a role that moves beyond transactional delivery into firm-wide influence. Key Responsibilities: Legal Knowledge Leadership - Lead the development and implementation of a knowledge strategy for the Construction & Projects team. - Create, maintain and manage key precedents, toolkits, practice notes and templates across non-contentious and contentious construction matters. - Monitor and analyse legal developments, providing strategic updates and actionable insights to lawyers and clients alike. Thought Leadership & Market Engagement - Produce high-quality client briefings, white papers and insight pieces to support business development and profile-raising initiatives. - Collaborate with partners on content for events, webinars, roundtables and industry publications. Client Relationship & Strategic Support - Partner with the BD team to develop client-facing knowledge initiatives, such as sector-specific briefings and legal update sessions. - Support client relationship management strategies and attend client meetings as a trusted subject matter expert. Technology, Innovation & AI Integration - Assess and implement document automation tools and AI solutions to improve legal delivery and efficiency. - Collaborate with innovation teams to enhance legal processes and client service models. Training, Mentoring & Development - Design and deliver bespoke training for lawyers across all levels, from new joiners to senior associates. - Provide mentoring, legal research support and individual coaching to fee earners working on complex matters. - Identify training needs across the practice and develop tailored learning programmes with external and internal providers. Candidate Requirements: - Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with significant experience in construction law, ideally gained in a top-tier private practice or in-house environment. - Strong technical expertise in non-contentious and/or contentious construction matters. - A strategic mindset with the ability to analyse market trends, legislative change and emerging technologies. - Excellent communication and drafting skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders, partners and clients. - Experience in knowledge management, training, legal innovation or document automation (desirable but not essential). - A proactive, collaborative approach and a genuine passion for helping others develop and succeed. - Commercial awareness and an interest in client engagement and thought leadership. This role would suit an experienced construction associate or senior associate ready to move into a non-fee-earning role, or an existing PSL looking to join a forward-thinking firm with an international footprint and strong growth trajectory. The Opportunity: You'll be joining a large and well-established Construction & Projects team within the wider Real Estate and Disputes groups. The team includes over 20 lawyers across their UK offices, working across both transactional and contentious construction. Clients include major contractors, developers, public sector bodies, infrastructure providers and financial institutions with work spanning energy, infrastructure, telecoms, education and more. The firm is known for its collaborative culture, agile working, and commitment to innovation as well as its Tier 1 practices in Real Estate, Tech, Life Sciences and Energy.
