Construction Lawyer (Senior Associate) | International Law Firm | City of London
A prestigious international law firm is seeking a Senior Associate to join its non-contentious Construction team in London. This is a superb opportunity for a construction lawyer with front-end experience to work on some of the most complex and high-profile projects across the UK and internationally.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates with a strong background in drafting and negotiating construction contracts, looking to join a market-leading practice with a global reach and an exceptional client base.
The Role:
As a Senior Associate in this high-performing team, you will advise on the full lifecycle of major construction and infrastructure projects. The work is intellectually stimulating, varied, and international in scope. You'll support clients on strategic procurement, contract negotiation, project structuring, and risk management.
You'll be advising stakeholders including contractors, developers, investors, public sector bodies, and insurers across a broad range of sectors from energy and transport to real estate, infrastructure, and major urban regeneration schemes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting and negotiating construction and engineering contracts, including JCT and NEC suites
- Advising on procurement strategies, joint venture agreements, alliance and framework agreements
- Advising on PFI/PPP and complex infrastructure transactions
- Supporting clients through the tendering, negotiation, and contract execution phases
- Working on large-scale, cross-border projects with international clients
- Contributing to business development initiatives and supporting junior team members
- Building and nurturing relationships with existing clients and contacts in the construction industry
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified solicitor with 7+ years' PQE (UK or equivalent), with strong experience in non-contentious construction law
- Demonstrable experience of advising on major construction and infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with a range of standard form contracts (JCT, NEC, FIDIC) and bespoke drafting
- Commercially astute, with excellent negotiation and client-handling skills
- Experience in advising on international projects (desirable, not essential)
- Existing contacts within the construction industry or a clear interest in business development
- Previous experience in private practice or an in-house legal team within a construction or infrastructure business
