Construction Lawyer (Non-Contentious) | International Law Firm | City of London
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Construction Lawyer to join a highly regarded Projects, Development & Construction team within a leading UK and international law firm. This role is ideal for an experienced non-contentious construction lawyer seeking high-quality work, close partner access and a genuine platform for long-term career development within a growing and ambitious practice.
The team advises on a broad range of development, infrastructure and construction projects, acting for an impressive and diverse client base that includes developers, investors, funders, public bodies, contractors and consultants.
The practice has particular strength in:
- Real estate and mixed-use development
- Housing and accommodation (including living sector projects)
- Regeneration schemes and joint ventures
- Education, healthcare and care sector developments
- Energy, renewables and sustainability-led projects
- Infrastructure and large-scale commercial developments
You will be involved in matters from project inception through to completion, advising on procurement strategy, risk allocation and complex contractual arrangements.
This is a senior, non-contentious-focused position, offering autonomy, responsibility and the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the continued growth of the team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting and negotiating a wide range of construction and development documentation
- Advising on procurement and contracting strategies from the outset of projects
- Working with both standard form and bespoke construction contracts
- Supporting clients on live projects to manage and mitigate risk
- Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
- Running matters independently and managing competing priorities
- Contributing to know-how development and business development initiatives
- While the role is non-contentious, the team frequently advises on risk management and dispute avoidance on live schemes, offering a commercially rounded practice.
The team is keen to speak with lawyers who bring strong technical foundations and a proactive, team-oriented approach.
You are likely to have:
- 6+ years' PQE in non-contentious construction law
- Experience within a recognised construction or projects team
- Strong knowledge of JCT, NEC and FIDIC forms and market-standard amendments
- Experience advising on bespoke and complex development arrangements
- Sector exposure to development, investor-led or housing/accommodation projects (highly desirable)
- Experience supervising junior lawyers and managing matters
- A genuine interest in developing sector knowledge and contributing to team growth
You do not need to have experience of every contract type, but you should be keen to take on increasingly complex and high-profile work, with partner support.
Why This Role Stands Out:
- High-quality, varied non-contentious construction work
- Strong pipeline of development and infrastructure projects
- Clear scope for progression - this is a long-term career role
- Supportive, collaborative team culture with excellent partner access
- Opportunity to shape your practice, mentor others and build profile
- Hybrid working with flexibility and sensible core office days
If you are an experienced non-contentious construction lawyer looking for a role that combines top-quality work, responsibility and long-term progression, this opportunity should be firmly on your radar.
