Construction Lawyer | International Law Firm | City of London An opportunity has arisen for a Contentious Construction Lawyer to join a market-leading team at the heart of this international practice, in London. Owing to sustained growth and an expanding pipeline of complex instructions, the team is looking to appoint an additional lawyer to play a key role in its continued development. The firm acts for leading UK and international clients on some of the most significant construction and infrastructure matters in the market, while maintaining an inclusive culture that values diversity of background and perspective. This is a standout opportunity for a construction disputes specialist who wants exposure to high-quality, technically challenging work, early responsibility, and a genuine long-term career path within one of the UK's most respected construction and engineering practices. This firm is consistently recognised for delivering top-tier legal advice alongside a genuinely collegiate culture. Lawyers are valued, supported and encouraged to fulfil their potential, with real investment in professional development and wellbeing. This role is suited to a lawyer with a strong grounding in contentious construction and engineering matters, combining both: - Project advisory work on live developments, helping clients manage risk and mitigate disputes before they escalate; and - Formal dispute resolution, including adjudication, High Court litigation, arbitration and mediation. You will be trusted with significant responsibility from an early stage, working closely with partners on complex, high-value matters while also developing your own client relationships and profile within the market. The Construction & Engineering team sits within a broader Real Estate group and is widely recognised for its technical strength, collaborative culture and market reputation. What sets this team apart is its commitment to associate development - Lawyers are encouraged to take ownership of workstreams, lead on discrete elements of matters, and actively shape their career progression. The practice advises clients across the full construction and engineering supply chain, both in the UK and internationally. Work spans a wide range of sectors, including: - Living and residential developments (with a particular focus on building safety) - Transport and infrastructure - Industrial engineering - Energy and waste - PFI and complex long-term projects You will work closely with colleagues across non-contentious construction, real estate and projects, giving you a genuinely joined-up view of major developments and disputes. To be successful in this role, you are likely to have: - At least 2 years' PQE in contentious construction and engineering law - Experience advising on both project advisory matters and formal disputes - A strong understanding of construction contracts and the contractual, tortious and statutory issues arising across the supply chain - Hands-on experience of disputes involving delay, extensions of time, liquidated damages, defects and additional cost - Practical experience of adjudication and High Court litigation (arbitration and mediation experience is advantageous but not essential) - Exposure to large-scale document management, disclosure exercises and review platforms - Experience assisting with witness and expert evidence - Strong stakeholder management skills and a client-focused mindset - You will be organised, commercially aware, and genuinely curious about clients' businesses, able to deliver advice that is not only technically robust but also practical and impactful. This role will appeal to construction disputes lawyers who are looking to step up in quality of work, responsibility and long-term prospects, without sacrificing support or balance.
