Contentious Construction Solicitor - Senior Associate | City of London
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Associate (Contentious Construction) to join a highly regarded and growing Construction, Engineering & Procurement team at a leading UK law firm. This is a role suited to an ambitious construction disputes lawyer with 5+ years' PQE, looking to take the next step in their career within a top-ranked Legal 500 team, working on complex, high-value and industry-defining matters.
You will join a large and well-established construction disputes practice recognised for delivering commercial, pragmatic advice on some of the most significant disputes in the sector. The team is at the forefront of the market, having acted on precedent-setting cases in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, as well as handling a broad range of matters across:
- The Technology and Construction Court (TCC)
- Adjudications, arbitrations and mediations
- Building safety and post-Grenfell litigation
- Complex residential development and remediation disputes
Clients include major registered providers of social housing, leading contractors, construction professionals and international investors. The breadth and scale of work offer genuine exposure to strategically important, high-value disputes. Key Responsibilities:
- Managing a varied caseload of contentious construction matters from inception through to resolution
- Advising on construction contracts, including payment disputes, extensions of time, loss and expense, defects and insurance issues
- Acting in adjudications, arbitrations, mediations and TCC proceedings
- Drafting pleadings, submissions and witness statements
- Running files autonomously while supervising and supporting junior lawyers
- Liaising directly with clients and delivering clear, commercially focused advice
- Contributing to thought leadership, seminars and client publications
- Supporting business development initiatives and strengthening client relationships
About You:
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with 5+ years' PQE in contentious construction
- Experience handling adjudications, mediations and litigation, ideally within the TCC
- A strong understanding of Housing Grants, Construction & Regeneration Act 1996, Scheme for Construction Contracts Regulations, and Civil Procedure Rules
- Experience managing your own caseload and supervising junior lawyers
- Commercially astute with the ability to deliver practical, client-focused advice
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- A proactive approach with an interest in business development and client engagement
