Construction Disputes Lawyer | International Law Firm | City of London
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Construction Disputes Solicitor to join a highly regarded, growing contentious construction team in London.
Construction is a core area of the firm's practice, with an established reputation across the UK market. This is an opportunity to join a strong national contentious construction team and work on a broad range of high-quality construction disputes for an impressive client base spanning the private and public sectors.
For the right candidate, this role offers more than high-quality technical work. You will have the opportunity to develop your profile within a specialist construction disputes practice, take increasing responsibility for client relationships and business development, and work closely with leading lawyers across the firm's UK offices and international network.
You will advise on a broad range of UK contentious construction matters, acting for developers, major domestic and international contractors, consultants and public sector organisations, including central and local government and social housing providers.
The team works across the full spectrum of major construction contracts, including JCT, NEC, ICE, FIDIC, PPC and GC Works, as well as PFI and bespoke contractual arrangements.
The role is predominantly focused on domestic construction disputes, with opportunities to become involved in international construction and arbitration matters as your experience develops.
You will also work closely with the firm's London real estate team and colleagues across other practice areas, giving you genuine exposure to complex, multi-disciplinary projects and a broad client base.
Your work will include:
- Advising on construction disputes and contentious construction matters across a range of sectors and projects.
- Acting in adjudication, mediation and litigation, including claims progressing under the Pre-Action Protocol for Construction and Engineering Disputes.
- Advising on dispute avoidance, risk management and contractual interpretation.
- Handling claims involving professional negligence.
- Working with major construction contracts, including JCT, NEC, FIDIC and other standard and bespoke forms.
- Managing your own caseload and taking responsibility for the effective progression of matters.
- Developing and maintaining strong, commercially focused client relationships.
- Playing an active role in business development, helping to strengthen the team's market profile and identify new opportunities.
- Collaborating with colleagues across the firm's UK offices and wider practice areas.
- Contributing to departmental and firm-wide training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Ensuring files are managed effectively and in accordance with Lexcel procedures.
- Travelling where required in connection with clients and matters.
Candidate requirements:
- Strong experience of UK construction disputes (2-5 PQE), including adjudication; alternatively, experience of international arbitration within the construction sector.
- A good working knowledge of construction contracts, particularly JCT, NEC and/or FIDIC.
- Experience managing files and the ability to work efficiently across multiple matters.
- Strong analytical, drafting and communication skills.
- A commercially minded and client-focused approach.
- An interest in business development and developing your own professional profile.
- Drive, enthusiasm and the ambition to progress your career within a leading construction disputes practice.
- A collaborative, flexible and proactive approach.
If you are a 2-5 PQE Construction Disputes Solicitor in London looking for the opportunity to join a growing, nationally recognised team and take the next step in your contentious construction career, this role is well worth exploring.
