Construction Lawyer | International Law Firm - City of London An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Construction Solicitor to join the international construction practice of a leading City and international law firm. This is a particularly strong opportunity for a construction lawyer looking to build an international practice, work directly with major institutional clients and develop deeper expertise across complex multi-national construction and infrastructure projects. Based in London, you will work closely with the firm's established EMEA construction team and have significant exposure to a key institutional clients operating in the energy, and oil and gas sectors. You will advise on major projects, working directly with the clients in-house legal and project management teams to deliver pragmatic, commercially focused and time-sensitive advice. The role offers the opportunity to develop long-term client relationships, take ownership of complex contractual matters and play an active role in the continued growth of an established international construction and infrastructure practice. You will advise on the full life-cycle of major construction and infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on construction contracts, contract negotiation, project risk and live project advisory work. You will have regular interaction with sophisticated clients and their project teams, gaining valuable exposure to the commercial and operational issues that arise on major international projects. The work will include advising on both FIDIC-based and bespoke construction contracts, as well as associated project documentation. Your responsibilities will include: - Drafting, reviewing, advising on and negotiating construction and infrastructure contracts, particularly FIDIC standard forms and bespoke construction contracts. - Advising on consultancy agreements, ancillary security and associated project documentation. - Providing strategic contractual advice on live projects. - Identifying, assessing and mitigating contractual and project risks. - Advising on the interpretation and application of contractual provisions. - Working closely with the client's in-house legal, project management and wider operational teams. - Delivering clear, practical and commercially focused advice, often within demanding timescales. - Supporting clients throughout the life-cycle of major construction and infrastructure projects. - Building, maintaining and developing trusted client relationships. - Delivering client training seminars and presentations. - Contributing to business development and wider marketing initiatives. - Preparing legal research, client briefings and thought leadership content. - Supporting and mentoring trainees and paralegals within the team. - Managing multiple matters and competing priorities while maintaining consistently high standards of accuracy and client service. Candidate requirements: - 2:1 law degree or equivalent from a recognised university is required. - 5-8 PQE with significant experience advising on the lifecycle of major construction and infrastructure projects. - Strong experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on construction contracts and associated project documentation. - Experience with FIDIC standard forms, bespoke construction contracts and/or amended standard-form contracts. - Experience undertaking contractual risk reviews and providing strategic project advice. - An understanding of the commercial and operational pressures associated with major, project-driven environments. - Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise and commercially focused advice. - Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters under pressure. - The ability to prioritise competing demands and respond effectively to changing client requirements and deadlines. - A proactive approach to business development and client relationship management. - Strong commercial awareness and a genuine interest in international construction. - Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with people at all levels. - A flexible, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
