A leading international law firm is seeking a Non-Contentious Construction Associate to join its highly regarded Construction & Development team in London.
This is an exciting opportunity for a construction lawyer looking to take the next step in their career and gain exposure to some of the UK's and international market's most significant energy, infrastructure, data centre and real estate development projects.
With sustained growth across energy transition, renewables, power, utilities, data centres and major infrastructure, the team is continuing to expand and offers the successful candidate the opportunity to take genuine ownership of matters, work directly with sophisticated clients and develop alongside highly regarded Partners.
You will join a market-leading Construction & Development practice advising on complex projects throughout their lifecycle, from procurement and development structuring through to project delivery and long-term operation.
The team's work spans a particularly diverse range of sectors, including:
- Energy and renewables, including offshore wind, solar, green hydrogen, biofuels, pumped storage and hydro.
- Power and utilities.
- Data centres and technology infrastructure.
- Major transport and social infrastructure.
- Industrial processing and process plant.
- Complex civil engineering projects.
- Commercial and real estate development, including retail, town centre regeneration, offices, leisure, residential, hotels and mixed-use schemes.
You will work with an impressive client base comprising developers, sponsors, funds, utilities, IPPs, contractors, operators, technology providers, universities and public sector organisations.
The role offers early responsibility, meaningful client exposure and the opportunity to work closely with senior lawyers on high-value and strategically important projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support workstreams on major UK and international construction and infrastructure projects.
- Advise clients throughout the project lifecycle, from procurement and contracting strategy through to project delivery and operation.
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of construction and engineering contracts, including JCT, NEC, FIDIC and bespoke agreements.
- Advise on professional appointments, collateral warranties, guarantees, security documents and long-term operational agreements.
- Work on complex energy, renewable energy, power, utilities, infrastructure and data centre projects.
- Support and lead elements of significant real estate development schemes.
- Advise developers, sponsors, funders, contractors, utilities, operators and public sector bodies on strategic risk allocation and commercial contracting issues.
- Develop strong, long-term relationships with clients and other project stakeholders, including consultants, contractors and funders.
- Contribute to business development, pitches and client relationship management.
Candidate Requirements:
- 4-6 years' PQE in non-contentious construction law.
- Strong experience advising on construction projects, ideally across energy, renewables, power, utilities, infrastructure, data centres and/or commercial development.
- Excellent drafting, reviewing and negotiation skills across construction and engineering agreements.
- Experience with JCT and NEC contracts; knowledge of FIDIC, EPC, EPCM or other international project documentation would be advantageous.
- A sound understanding of the legal, commercial and operational issues affecting major construction and development projects.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to work with clients, contractors, consultants, funders and other project participants.
