About the Firm
Our client is a well-established Am Law 100 firm with a strong, long-standing reputation in venture capital and emerging companies work - a practice area the firm has built significant depth and market recognition in over many years, rather than treating as a peripheral offering.
About the Practice (Boston)
The Boston office sits at the heart of one of the most active venture capital and startup ecosystems in the country, and the firm's Venture Capital & Emerging Companies practice there is correspondingly robust. The group works closely with venture-backed companies and investors on the full range of financing and operational matters, giving associates consistent, high-volume deal flow and direct exposure to the venture and startup community that defines the Boston market.
The Role
The firm is seeking an experienced corporate associate with 4+ years of transactional background to join the Venture Capital & Emerging Companies practice. The role centers on drafting and negotiating venture capital investment agreements and advising emerging companies on operational matters, including board and stockholder communications. The position also carries a supervisory component, mentoring junior associates on venture financing matters and project execution - reflecting a role designed for someone ready to step into leadership within the practice. Proficiency with cap tables, Excel, and legal technology tools is expected, along with admission (or eligibility) in New York or Massachusetts. Compensation ranges from $310,000 to $365,000, plus bonus eligibility and a full benefits package.
Long-Term Career Benefits
* Deep specialization in a durable, high-growth practice area. Venture capital work has proven resilient across market cycles, and Boston's ecosystem provides an unusually steady pipeline of deal flow to build a genuine specialty on
* Built-in leadership track. The mentoring and supervisory component signals a firm actively grooming associates for greater responsibility - valuable, visible experience ahead of partnership consideration
* Direct relationships with investors and founders. Regular contact with venture investors and emerging company management builds a client relationship network that has long-term value, whether pursuing partnership, general counsel roles, or venture-side positions
* Boston market positioning. Embedding within one of the country's leading VC hubs creates strong regional name recognition and a built-in referral network within the local startup and investor community
