Large Loss Lawyer This national Large Loss team provides specialist legal services in relation to high-value and technically complex insurance claims. The team handles cases with reserves exceeding £150,000, including some of the most serious personal injury matters, representing significant client reserves across a broad range of sectors. The caseload includes motor, employers' liability, public liability, and product liability claims. Typical matters involve catastrophic injuries such as brain injuries, spinal injuries, amputations, chronic pain conditions, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), and substantial fatal dependency claims. They are currently seeking a Large Loss Lawyer with 5+ years' post-qualification experience (PQE) to join the team. The successful candidate will primarily support senior lawyers and partners in managing catastrophic injury claims, while also supervising and delegating work to junior team members. The role offers a high degree of autonomy in managing a caseload, with opportunities to handle claims valued up to £500,000 independently. Key Responsibilities Assist senior lawyers and partners while managing your own caseload of catastrophic injury and high-value personal injury matters. Conduct initial investigations and prepare reports, case strategies, and client updates. Liaise with claimant representatives, insurers, law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, witnesses, and other stakeholders to gather evidence. Instruct and manage medical, forensic, and other expert witnesses as required. Maintain case management systems, diaries, and action plans. Attend court hearings, conferences, and settlement meetings where appropriate. Draft correspondence, reports, reserve recommendations, and strategic documents. Support the supervision, mentoring, and development of junior team members. About You You will have demonstrable experience in defendant personal injury litigation and a genuine interest in large loss and catastrophic injury work. Key requirements include: Qualified solicitor with approximately 5+ years' PQE. Experience managing a defendant personal injury litigation caseload, ideally involving motor claims, although employers' liability and public liability experience will also be considered. Experience in high-value or catastrophic injury claims is advantageous but not essential. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines and performance targets. BCL Legal is an equal opportunities employer.
