A well-established and highly respected law firm with over four decades of success in specialist housing litigation is seeking an experienced Criminal/Regulatory Solicitor to join its growing Environmental Protection Act (EPA) Prosecutions team. This is a unique opportunity for a solicitor with a background in criminal prosecution or defence to transition into a meaningful role focused on improving living standards for tenants across the UK.
The Role:
You'll manage a caseload of EPA matters, bringing prosecutions against landlords (private and social) under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The role involves both pre- and post-prosecution stages in the Magistrates' Court, with full conduct of files from inception to trial or settlement.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Running a caseload of Environmental Protection Act prosecutions
Drafting and/or reviewing Notices of Intended Prosecution, Summonses, and supporting documents
Conducting disclosure reviews and preparing Defence Case Statements
Handling advocacy and trial preparation
Liaising with Environmental Health Officers and Counsel
Ensuring compliance with CrimPR, CPIA 1996, and relevant legislation
Using Proclaim (or equivalent CMS) to manage files efficiently
The Ideal Candidate:
Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales)
Minimum 2 years PQE, ideally with experience in criminal law (prosecution or defence)
Ability to bill at Grade B or above
Strong advocacy skills and experience managing files through to trial
Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure
Proficient in using a Case Management System (Proclaim preferred)
