Healthcare Regulatory We are seeking an experienced lawyer with a background in professional regulatory work, particularly within a healthcare fitness to practice context. This role can be based in one of several offices, including Manchester, London, Cardiff, Reading, or Southampton. It's an exciting time to join as the team continues to grow due to recent client wins and a significant increase in workload. The team handles a diverse range of regulatory casework, including investigations and preparation for hearings before regulatory tribunals. The role also involves conducting litigation in regulatory appeals and applications before courts in England and Wales, including the High Court. Additionally, there may be opportunities to contribute as a legal advisor to regulatory panels. They offer flexible working arrangements, with team members currently attending the office 2 days per week. We're happy to discuss working patterns that suit your needs. Recognized in both Chambers and The Legal 500, this regulatory team is highly regarded for its expertise in advising professional regulators. Clients include regulators and professionals across multiple sectors, including health and social care, accountancy, and education. Typical Workload In this role, you will: Assess concerns raised in cases and prepare a case plan outlining additional evidence that may need to be gathered during investigations. Evaluate any identified risks and advise on whether interim orders (such as restrictions or prohibitions on practice) are necessary. Oversee investigations conducted by internal investigators, or lead the investigation yourself, including interviewing witnesses and preparing statements. Draft investigative reports that assess the strength of evidence, recommend appropriate actions, and, where necessary, prepare allegations. Keep both clients and individuals under investigation informed of progress, while also contributing to the tracking of key performance indicators for case management. Prepare cases for hearings, collaborating with advocates to ensure a comprehensive case presentation. Handle regulatory litigation, including appeals and applications before the High Court. Provide broader regulatory advice, helping to shape regulatory policies and practices. Although experience with regulatory investigations is beneficial, applicants with skills from other practice areas may also be considered. Full support, training, and induction are provided to ensure your success in this role. Skills/Experience Required We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate: Strong professional regulatory knowledge or experience within a healthcare fitness to practice environment. Proven experience managing cases independently. Solid technical expertise and strong intellectual abilities. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. A collaborative, team-oriented approach. Outstanding client care and communication skills. High levels of self-motivation and the ability to manage your own caseload effectively. A commitment to personal and professional development.
